Using Mindspace across your devices

6 min read

Sign in with the same email on your phone, tablet and computer, and your favourites, playlists and saved mixes follow you. A change reaches your other open devices within seconds. Audio you save for offline is different: it stays on the device that saved it.

What follows you between devices, and what stays on one?

Your lists follow you; your saved audio does not. Everything you choose, arrange and save inside the players is kept in your account and copied to each device you sign in on. Audio files are kept by the device that downloaded them.

The lists travel through your account to every device. The audio each device saves for offline stays on that device.
WhatWhere it lives
Follows you to every device
FavouritesEvery player you have hearted: the stem orb players and the hour-long soundscape players. Each favourite keeps its own settings, so levels, binaural beat, nature sounds and noise come back as you left them.
PlaylistsEvery playlist you have made, in your order, plus the built-in Favourites playlist.
Saved mixesEvery mix you have saved with Save This Mix, with all its settings.
Favourite nature soundsThe nature sounds you have hearted, shown at the top under My sounds.
Stays on the device
Offline audioTracks and mixes saved for offline. Each device saves its own copy.
Royalty-free library marksHearts, stars and the Used list in the royalty-free library are kept in the browser you set them in.
Downloaded filesMP3s and licence PDFs from the royalty-free library are files on the device that downloaded them. Your licences are also recorded against your account.

In summary: favourites, playlists, saved mixes and favourite nature sounds follow you to every device; offline audio, royalty-free library marks and downloaded files stay on the device that made them.

How do I add a phone, tablet or computer?

Sign in on it with the same email you use everywhere else, then open any Mindspace player page. Your account works on as many devices as you like, at the same time.

  1. On the new device, open mindspace.music and sign in with your usual email. Shopify sends you a code to enter.
  2. Open your dashboard, any player page or My Mindspace. The device joins your library and your favourites, playlists and mixes appear within a few seconds.
  3. If you will play on this device without a signal, save the tracks you need for offline here as well. See Offline audio.

One email, one library. A different email is a different account with its own, separate library. If Shop Pay or the Shop app signs you in, check the account page shows the email you expect.

In summary: sign in with the same email, open a player page, and your library arrives; save offline audio separately on each device you play from.

When do changes reach my other devices?

Within seconds, on any device that has a Mindspace page open. A device sends a change about four seconds after you make it.

  • Open devices check for changes when you come back to the tab, and about every 30 seconds while the page is open.
  • Closed devices catch up the next time you open a Mindspace page on them.
  • Two devices, two changes. If you add a playlist on the laptop and another on the phone, both are kept. If you change the same thing on both, the later change wins.
  • The offline player shows your library as it was when that device last synced. It plays from it but never sends changes back, so a device that has been offline for a week cannot overwrite your current library.

In summary: changes travel within seconds between open devices, closed devices catch up when opened, and the offline player only reads.

What happens on a new device, or after I clear my browser?

The first visit combines that device's lists with your account's, so nothing is lost. After that first visit, the device simply follows your account.

  • Because the first visit only ever adds, something you deleted on another device can reappear once. Delete it again and it stays deleted.
  • Clearing your browsing data (cookies and website data) makes your browser look like a new device. Your library comes back from your account, and the same one-off reappearance can happen.
  • Clearing website data also removes that device's offline audio. Save it again afterwards.

In summary: a new or cleared device merges once and loses nothing; a deleted item may return once, and deleting it again settles it.

Why do I have to save offline audio on each device?

Audio is saved inside the browser on the device that downloads it, and browsers cannot share that storage with other devices. Your favourites list arrives everywhere; the sound behind it is saved once per device.

  • Save on the devices you play from in sessions. A desk computer you only use to prepare does not need offline audio.
  • Hour-long soundscapes are large, roughly 140 MB each. Stem-player tracks are much smaller. Check free space on a phone before saving several.
  • A saved track shows a green tick on the device that holds it. Another device shows the same favourite without the tick until you save it there too.

Setting up offline listening, adding the offline player to your Home Screen or Dock, and how long saved audio lasts are covered in Working with no connection.

In summary: the list travels, the audio does not; save offline audio on each device you will play from.

How do practitioners use more than one device?

Most prepare on a larger screen and play from whichever device sits in the room. Three set-ups that work well:

Prepare at the desk, play in the room

Build playlists and save mixes on your laptop. Open My Mindspace on your phone in the room and they are there. Save the session's tracks for offline on the phone first if the room's signal is poor.

A tablet that lives in the room

Sign in once and leave it signed in. Save your regular session tracks for offline. Whenever it has a connection, it picks up what you changed elsewhere.

Travelling

Add the offline player to your phone's Home Screen and save what you need before you go. Your library shows as it was when you left; changes you make elsewhere arrive when you are back online.

In summary: plan on the big screen, play from the device in the room, and save offline audio on that device before the session.

What if my devices don't match?

Almost every mismatch is one of four things. Work down the list.

A new favourite isn't on my other device

Is that device online with a Mindspace page open? Switch away from the tab and back, or reload. Give it half a minute.

My libraries are completely different

The two devices are signed in with different emails. Open the account page on each, sign out of the wrong one, and sign in with your usual email.

Something I deleted came back

That happens once after a new device or a cleared browser joins. Delete it again; it will stay deleted.

A favourite shows but won't play without signal

Its audio has not been saved on this device. Save it for offline here while you have a connection.

Still not right? Tell us which devices and browsers you are using, and what you expected to see.

In summary: check the device is online, check both are signed in with the same email, delete a returning item once more, and save offline audio on the device that needs it.

Questions practitioners ask

How many devices can I use?

Mindspace sets no limit. Sign in on as many phones, tablets and computers as you use, at the same time.

Do I need to be online for my devices to stay in step?

Yes. A device sends and receives changes only when it has a connection. Offline, it plays from what it last received and catches up when the connection returns.

Does keeping devices in step use much data?

Very little. Your library is a short list of names and settings, not audio. Only saving tracks for offline downloads audio.

Can I use two browsers on the same computer?

Yes. Each browser counts as its own device: both show your library, and each saves its own offline audio.

I signed in on a client's phone. What should I do?

Sign out before you hand it back. While you are signed in, that phone shows your library and can change it.

Will my royalty-free library hearts appear on my phone?

No. Library hearts, stars and the Used list stay in the browser where you set them. Your licences are recorded against your account either way.

In summary: sign in with the same email on every device and your favourites, playlists and saved mixes follow you within seconds; offline audio is saved separately on each device you play from.
