Where the timers are

There are three, in three places, and they do not do the same thing. Two of them stop the sound. One of them stops nothing at all, and it is the one most likely to be misread.

On an orb player

Sleep timer

Stops the sound

The clock in the row of controls under the orb, sitting fifth along: mix, binaural, nature, coloured noise, sleep timer, master volume. Choose a length and the player stops when it runs out.

This is the one for a client listening at home, or for falling asleep to. It is not the one for a session you are running.

In My Mindspace

Session length

Stops the sound

A dropdown beside your playlist, running from No limit through 15, 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 minutes to 2 hours and 2.5 hours. Once it is running, the time left is shown next to it.

It is a sleep timer with a different name. Set it to the length of your session and the sound ends when the session does, without you touching anything in the room.

In the binaural journey player

Session

Does not stop anything

Same word, different job. Here, Session sets how long the descent takes: how gradually the beat travels from where it starts to where it settles.

It has no effect on the music, and it will not end your session. Set it to the length you expect the session to run so the descent is paced across the whole of it.

Worth knowing

Why Session length disappears in the journey player

Two controls called Session on one screen, doing different things, is a mistake waiting to be made. So when you are running a journey, the Session length dropdown is hidden and left on No limit.

The reason is worth stating. Set Session length to 60 while the journey is set to 75 and the music stops fifteen minutes early — the room falls silent with a quarter of the session left. Hiding it removes the possibility.

If you go looking for it during a journey and cannot find it, nothing is broken. It is out of the way on purpose.

In summary: the clock on an orb player and Session length in My Mindspace both stop the sound. Session in the journey player sets how long the descent takes and stops nothing. If you want silence at the end of a session, use Session length; if you want the beat paced across it, use Session.
